INTRODUCTION

The word “Computer” comes from the word compute which means to calculate. So a computer is normally consider to be a calculation device that comes perform arithmetic operation at enormous speed.

              Infect the main objective for inventing the computer to create a fast calculating machine but now in these days computer are non mathematical or numerical nature. In more accurate word from a computer make defined as a device that operates upon information or data but data comes in various shapes and styles  depending upon the time up computer application .A computer can store , process and repair data on main desired.

                 The fact that computer process data is so fundamental that many people have started calling it a data processer so now finally we can say :-

                                                            “ Computer is an electronic machine which takes data as input, process the data wished on given instruction and give us meaningful information as output.”  

Characteristics of Computer:-

(i)                  SPEED:-

      A computer is very fast device . It can perform in a very few second the amount of work that a human brain can do interior year. Now in these days the computer works in Milliseconds  () , Microsecond ( ) , Nanoseconds () and is picoseconds( ) . A powerful computer which capable of performing about three to four millions simple arithmetic operations per seconds.

              (II)           ACCURACY :-

                                      The accuracy of computer is consistently high. The degree of accuracy of a particular computer depends upon its design, Errors can occur in a computer but these are mainly due to human mistakes rather than technical faults.

 

             (III) DILIGENCE:-

                               Unlike human beings , a computer is free from tiredness , lack of concentrations . Hence the computer can work for hours together without creating any error, due to this properties computer  obviously scored over human being doing routine types of jobs , which required accuracy.

(iv) VERSATILE:-

                                  It is one of the most wonderful things about the computer . One moment it is preparing the process report of student. The next moment , it is busy to preparing the another tasks, so we can say computer can do many tasks at a time, briefly we can say , a computer is capable of performing almost any tasks provided that a task can be included to a series of logical steps.

 

(iv) Storage capacity:-

                                 As a human beings acquires new knowledge , the brain of human things whether it is important or not and work retaining in memory , with computers this is not the case, a computer can store and recall any amount of information because of its secondary storage device has great capacity/ large capacity to store the information .

 

(v) No Feelings :-

                             Computer are devoid of emotions . They have no feelings and no instincts because they are machine . Although Man has succeeded in building and memory for the computer but no computer possesses that is equivalent of the human heart and soul based of our feelings. We often make certain judgment in our day to day life but computer can not make such judgment is  based on the unstructions given to them in the form of programs that are written by us.
